NEXT was named as the first confirmed occupier of Anchorwood Bank’s retail and food area. The fashion and homewares retailer intends to double its trading footage by opening a modern store to accommodate local demand for a wider range of products than currently available in its store at 68 High Street. NEXT will be joined by DFS and by Frankie & Benny's and Chquito's. Other occupiers will be announced shortly.

Retail and restaurants

Anchorwood Bank is an attractive site for retail and restaurant businesses looking for high quality new space in Barnstaple and will enhance the town’s reputation as a destination for visitors from across North Devon and beyond.

The retail and restaurant area is located to the east of the access road into the site and comprises four new retail units, two to three family café/restaurant units with external seating areas and ample parking. The area’s boundaries will be fully landscaped to create a pleasant and attractive environment and it will be linked by walkways to other parts of Anchorwood Bank and, in the medium term, to the town centre via Long Bridge.

The clean design of the units makes reference to the site’s industrial past, using khaki coloured cladding and red brick to reference the local vernacular and compliment the local landscape.

Plans for the retail and food area were designed by south-west based LHC Architecture + Urbanism.
